Power Supply Troubleshooting

Issues with a power supply can have a variety of reasons. Please check here below some common problems.

Error displayed

Pre-set parameters are not reached/Unexpected results

Several issues are the result of not understanding the restrictions of a power supply. A power supply always follows the electrical laws that cannot be changed. A good understanding of what might happen exactly can be read here: FAQ

No output current

When the power supply reaches the programmed Voltage, the Current (mA) and Power (W) remain zero, it is very likely there is a problem with the cables or the tank itself. Check it with one or more of the following tests:

  • Try another pair of cables.
  • Check the connectors and the Platinum wires of the tank.
  • Try another pair of output sockets of the power supply if the 2 previous tests are good.

No display/Fuses are blown

When the power supply doesn't react when trying to power it up, it is very likely that the fuses have blown. Here's a page explaning how to replace the fuses: Fuse replacement

In case the fuses are immediately blown again, a technical problem might have arisen and the power supply will need servcing. Contact your supplier how they can help you.

How to pack a power supply to send

Output sockets/Tank connections

The power supplies have 3 to 4 pair of output sockets which can be different in size depending on the model and the maximum Voltage it can deliver. High Voltage outputs require special sockets with safety distances to prevent electrical shocks over the air.

Newest range (since 2015)

All models of the latest power supply range have 4 mm output sockets.

The high Voltage sources (>= 1500V) have new special safety sockets which are deep recessed 4 mm sockets. Most tank cable plugs will fit in them although some require an adapter to be able to make contact. Consort supplies a pair of adapters (article code EVHV_ADAPT) for this purpose. For connecting tanks with cables that have 2 mm safety plugs, it is possible to obtain a pair of adapters to insert them in the 4 mm sockets. The article code for this pair of adapters is E204.

Older ranges

Most models of this previous range have 4 mm sockets. The high voltage sources (>=1500V) have 2 mm safety sockets for which special plugs are required to connect the tank. When the tanks cables do not fit, most have 4mm plugs, it is possible to install the 4 to 2 mm adapters (article code E200). These adapters can simply be inserted manually, only when the power supply is switched off and the power cable is removed.

For connecting tanks with cables that have 2 mm safety plugs to 4 mm sockets, it is possible to obtain a pair of adapters. The article code for this pair of adapters is E204.
